Civil War: America's Epic Struggle app - now in the palm of your hand - Review
Okay, well you can say I run old-fashioned. Anything and everything history always interested me. And I always look for different ways to learn more and gain knowledge on historic facts, especially when it comes to Wars and Battles. Well I got a chance of reviewing one of the latest apps by MultiEducator Inc. An educational and reference app for the Ipad, Itouch, and Iphone.
- Civil War: America's Epic Struggle - ($4.99)
Providing more than 1,000 photos, video presentations, biographies, maps, articles & facts, history of major battles and wars, economics, including popular selected music that was played and sang during those times. It all comes together in this simple App.
Basically what I love about this app, is that it's very informative, a perfect reference for when it comes to American battle & war history. It's like all there, in this small app, I mean compare it to an ordinary school war & battle history text book, which one do you prefer? I'm going with the app. ; )
It has an easy-to-use Navigation system, that just doesn't get you lost at all. I can save and favorite articles, or high quality photos in the favorites section of the app.
If you lost yourself, or the page you were viewing, you can easily tap the Recent (located in the Navigation bar, along with Categories and Favorites) which will show you a list of your latest recent views.
And It's pretty easy. Once you start the app, you can easily use the search bar, or use the sorted categories listed in the main page of the app. And every category has choices of photos, videos, text summaries, and timeline facts to choose from (It also has colored icons included on the bars which let's you know what you are going to be viewing, whether its an article, summary or an audio presentation, you will just know by viewing the colored icon.)
You can even browse through the Timeline and find many historic facts, and events.
For example, let's say I want to browse through the year 1861 using the Timeline, it then comes with a list of months to choose from. Okay, well let's choose the month April, 1861. Which then takes me to a list and summary of detailed events that happened during that month. (Which brings me back to "why it's so easy to use")
If you tap on Major Battles Chronologically, it provides a chronological list of Major battles that happened during the times 1861-1865 all sorted out. Then by choosing a battle, let's say Bull Run, you have categorized pictures, articles, presentations, and audio, all on and about that battle.
If you tap on maps, you can choose from a list of different maps it has included in the app. So let's say we tap on Atlanta, it then has a list of the different maps of Atlanta during the Civil War time, to choose from. I prefer the landscape mode since it makes it easier and a lot better to view, showing you the quality map.
( the pinch zoom in and out works perfectly on this app, so there is no worries about "the letters being too small" since you can just simply zoom in.)
Another neat and helpful feature is that you can email content to anyone, by tapping on Send (or arrow button) [like the image provided on the side] which brings up the email screen. And one of the things that I love, is that it doesn't leave the app when sending the recent viewed content by email. You simply send the photo or article, and you return to the page you were viewing.
And it's unbelievable how all of this information is all included in this simple app. This surely beats those computer programs and text book guides for sure!
I never did encounter any technical issues. I did hear issues such as "audio quality", I never did experience any bad audio quality, so it was probably already fixed in one of the previous app updates. And In my opinion, this app is great. Providing so much information on Civil War (which is of course America's biggest and epic struggle). And expanding more into Education & electronic publishing for educators and students.
I would probably have to say that the Music and Americans section of the app are both my top favorite categories.
The app is easy and simple to use. You won't get lost, you will learn a lot, really good for the educators and students, easy to navigate, a really good reference.
They do have 3 other similar apps : History on the Go, World History, and Constitution, all of course by MultiEducator Inc.
The experience was truly awesome! Two thumbs up for this app
